Summer has finally made her debut and we’ve celebrated by heading back to our favourite seaside town for a boutique hotel stay, tidal pool swims and trying the new wine bar in town. The following week we headed back down south and revisited Tillingham, our favourite vineyard just one hour from London for a v special occasion (just Jemima's hen), complete with lunch and a vineyard tour. Back in London we bagged a table at a hard-to-book spot hidden amongst the colourful terraces of Notting Hill, see below for what we ordered.
Where we've eaten
Not New But New To Us should be a regular feature here tbh because while we may be out more times than we can say gorge, there’s always the ones that get away. One such untouchable was this Palestinian restaurant. You’ll find Akub extends up and out far beyond the suggestion of the 2-up, 2-down from the street, and is far more enchanting inside too. Hot on small plates that are a celebration of flavour, we loved the mafgoussa (squashed courgettes, garlic yoghurt, pine nuts and mint), grilled nabulsi cheese (think a cross between halloumi and feta) drizzled with nigella seed oil and the bukjet mousakhan (chicken in bread parcel) which was the ultimate flavour bomb.
Where we've stayed
This beachfront property is the third opening by the Guesthouse team, reimagining the Victorian property with a chic coastal design using earthy materials, a neutral colour palette and structural features mimicking the location's natural curves. Beds are framed with a golden freehand mural by local artist Laura Ann Coates with a large shell lampshade hanging in the centre of the room whilst the bathroom hides the perfect roll-top tub and rainfall shower. We ate at the Pearly Cow restaurant on the ground floor which is a perfect spot for grilled seafood overlooking the beachfront. Guest or not, you can't miss the rooftop bar for sunset.
Where's we've got our eye on
Having been blown away by their plant-based supper club last November, we’ve been eagerly awaiting the opening of their new Notting Hill restaurant. The sleek concrete interiors are a contrast to the colourful vegan explosions cooked up by ex-ACME Fire Cult chef Daniel Watkins, with a low-waste root-to-shoot ethos. Our table is booked for later this month so keep your eyes peeled on our socials for updates.
