DECEMBER NEWSLETTER '23

We've survived the time of the year where no one can acknowledge November without first asking 'how is it already November?' Before we dive into the festive month, we're looking back at our faves of the last few weeks, all of which centre around West London coincidentally. With both of us now working that way of the world, we've been able to explore the night scene much more, where are before all we'd known was bunching and mooching. Here are just a few of our top visits this month.

Where we've eaten

Looking for a chilled evening for one of our friend's birthdays, Ria's was an easy choice; Detroit-style pizza and natural wine. While we aren't converted to the funkier plonk, it is growing on us despite not knowing a great deal about it. This intimate wine bar has a more relaxed front room with low window seats and a more 'formal' dining room with tables and mini countertops. It has low-key date night written all over it, but is easy enough for catch ups with family and friends. In terms of the food, the pizza is moreish and chunky yet surprisingly light but our must-order is the 'cheeky start' to kick things off; a vodka shot with a chaser of feta with a dill cucumber ribbon.

Where we've stayed

Your classic pub with rooms, this stylish gastro pub gives you all the feels of a staycation escape without leaving zone 1. With just four rooms that are fit for royalty, and each named aptly so with royal nicknames, the bespoke bedrooms are decked with bold prints and vibrant, clashing colours. This is such a chic stay in the heart of Notting hill, close enough to all the brunch action along Westbourn Park and the nightlife around Portobello, or simply hunker down in the orangery for their Mediterranean-inspired menu using British produce.

Where we're off to next

We've heard a lot of things about this place and not one has been bad. Knowing how people can jump at the chance to poo-poo something succeeding, this seems pretty promising. This effortless wine bar, and favourite of the likes of Posh and Becks, gives off a new yet classic feel with its spacious high-ceilings lined with wood panelling and an accent of green throughout in the uninterrupted banquette seating. The menu reads more like a shopping list than a descriptive menu, leaving the vision with the staff to paint, which only adds to its intrigue. what we do know is it is being talked about very highly so this one is high on our lists. Anywhere you're likely to run into the Beckhams can't be bad can it.
