MARCH NEWSLETTER '24

We’ve sat through February like an extended ad that won’t skip. No birthdays, no holidays, no daylight. There seemed to be only one way to pass the time so we jam-packed it discovering some London hotels and new foodie spots, so much so that choosing just one stand-out restaurant this month proved all too much. Scroll down for our top picks, from a lunch catch-up with the girls to an east London sleepover, and hopefully they can bring as much joy to your March as they did our Feb.

Where we've eaten

We’re treating you this month with not one but two restaurants that have blown us off our yuppie stools, starting with date night in Hackney. Leo’s is an Italian-inspired cafe, bar and restaurant honouring its previous life as an Italian greasy spoon with its retro furnishings. The back of the restaurant has a more classic, romantic feel with white tablecloth tables paired with dark wooden chairs and views into the open fire kitchen. The minds behind Juliet’s Quality Foods paired with ex-Brat chef brings modern Mediterranean dishes such as lasagne bianca, grilled pork neck and a slab of creamy tiramisu to finish. If you manage to nab a seat at the bar you can expect punchy cocktails in funky glasses, low intervention wines and beer on tap.

The following week we headed over to Clerkenwell for lunch with friends at Morchella, the little sister to Stokey’s neighbourhood hotspot, Perilla. Interiors in this former bank are warm and welcoming with high ceilings and arched windows flooding the space with sunlight. Brilliantly the same attention to details has been carried over from Perilla with fold away bar stools and our favourite, the personal cutlery drawer for every seat. The green tiled bar separates diners from the kitchen where you can watch chefs preparing mediterranean sharing plates like meaty hake sobrasada, spaghetti vongole and crispy pork jowl. Attached to the former bank is an adjoining wine bar, perfect for mid-week, post-work catch ups with friends.

Where we've stayed

One of our favourite hotels in London for a fruity drink on the rooftop (check out our round-up of fave rooftops here), a cheeky drink in the basement and now everything in between since our girly sleepover last month. If you follow us on anything, you’ll have seen we haven’t been able to stay away from Shoreditch this year (find our mini guide here) and OHS served as a solid base for a weekend of fun. They have also just launched Lobby Lates on Thursdays and Fridays which sees £10 cocktails and music from emerging artists in the Lobby Bar.

Where the magic happens, simple rooms are spiced up with tapestry wall hangings and bespoke art, a mix of clean-girl aesthetics with funkier one-offs like those iconic panton chairs, and views spanning the urban backstreets of east London. Don’t even get us started on the golden hour glow that floods in. Rooms start at £172 per night with a Studio Pad and scale up to the 2-bed penthouse complete with outdoor terrace for up to 10 people.

Where's we've got our eye on

This stand-out property in the Cotswolds is what interior fantasies are made of. Hi-gloss acrylic tables, bright cheque tiling and 70’s style coloured bathrooms, everything about this space looks like a wonderland where anything goes. With just 31 rooms we suspect a lot of time and attention has gone into giving them their individual eccentricity off-set against the traditional features of the building. We are absolutely dreaming of a stay here, and until then imagery of  those striped tipis and scalloped brollies will live rent free in our minds.
