Post-summer blues made more spicy with a sprinkling of post-wedding weekend, and a hum of nostalgia as one of us has recently moved. (We are both now out in the countryside, not that TFL would notice!) While the darker mornings and evenings are something to absolutely keep talking about, the crisp sunny days make everything better and help make us not look so ridiculous on a rooftop plus an exciting new collaboration has been keeping us busy, but we’ll share more on that when we can...
Where we've eaten
Only weeks old, the sequel to Notting Hill’s hottest restaurant, Zephyr, has opened its doors and is bringing a relaxed vibe to The King’s Road with its plastered walls, wooden floorboards and a charming selection of mismatched antique crockery. The space is homely and cosy yet elevated with white table cloths, tapered candles and impressive marble-top bar primed for the open kitchen. As little sisters do, Bottarga has nabbed some of zephyr’s highlights such as the yellowtail & yuzu dressing and confit potatoes but not without its own standout dishes like its namesake Bottarga orzo, the saganaki bites and the lamb chops with gyros seasoning. Whilst its big sister is our go-to for a fun night out, Bottarga is perfect for intimate date night or a relaxed catch-up with friends.
Where we've stayed
If we couldn’t live in London, manny would come pretty close in our quest for second best for its energy and compact wingspan. There was a time when one of us was in Manchester almost every weekend so a return visit was long overdue. Nestled right in the centre and equidistant from Manchester Piccadilly and Oxford Road stations, we couldn’t have asked for a better location than The Alan. This design-led hotel reimagines leftover materials from the previous tenants to feed its aesthetic, from the second-hand marble terrazzo flooring to the recycled ceramic/wood light fittings in the bedrooms. The neutral palette continues throughout the hotel, creating a sense of calm in this lively city, framing the signature deep red brick outside perfectly. This trip merely tickled our taste buds; we feel a new city guide coming…
Where's we've got our eye on
Notting Hill really is thriving and this is the latest opening generating a buzz. From the team behind The Pelican, The Hero and The Bull in Charlbury, and with chefs from the River Cafe and Dorian, this Mediterranean-inspired restaurant is going to be our new favourite spot.
