OCTOBER NEWSLETTER '23

Welcome to our monthly newsletter, where you'll hear about our favourite bites, stays and future saves before anyone else.

This past month, wine bars have well and truly had their hold on us. Just as, it seems, every Tom, Dick and Harry…Leo, Ken and Dan (yes, really) have opened one on every corner. Far less presumptive than a cocktail bar, the humble wine bar lulls you into an evening of people-watching, easy laughs and light bar snacks. Here's a few worth saving.

Where we've eaten

Set in a Brick Lane warehouse space, this low-lit wine bar has been on our list for a while now and it has shot up to one of our go-to's easily. As you'd expect from the east end newcomer, you've got your carefully curated food menu, scantily-clad dining room and of course, low-intervention natural wines, but you've also got a bloody good spicy marg and negroni to switch it up. We are loving the wave of restaurants with a flare for music - this one shares its latest soundcloud playlists on their insta if you're interested. With a menu of rotating guest chefs, this is somewhere we'll be heading back to again and again. We enjoyed a pasta-focussed residency but by the time you’re reading this, you'll be just in time for a taste of Mexico City with Ariel McQueen (3rd-21st October).

Where we've stayed

Without sounding like a broken record, this was another one to finally tick off the list but don't get us wrong, it wasn’t a booking we made lightly...the price tag means it is definitely one to save for a special occasion. In this corner of East Sussex two hour's from London by car, refurbished farmhouses scatter its hills and mid-century style rooms frame its vineyards pretty as a picture. The hotel has a low impact approach to producing their own natural wine which can be enjoyed in their upstairs restaurant among a smattering of nostalgic furniture, spindly candles and large open kitchen. A perfectly peaceful setting for a memorable staycation.

Where we're off to next

Lured in by the linen half-curtain, orb lighting and scallop canopy, this spot in Highbury is next on our list. Serving a small menu of fresh pastas, it's intimate, buzzy and right up our street...soon to be all over our socials some time very soon.
